6.) Number of children:

Please provide comprehensive information about all your living, unmarried children under 21 years of age, irrespective of their current residence or plans to accompany or follow you in the event of your immigration to the United States. Submit individual photographs of each of your children, adhering to the same technical specifications as your own photograph.

Ensure that you include the following categories of children:

  • All living natural children.

  • All living children who have been legally adopted by you.

  • All living stepchildren who are unmarried and under the age of 21 on the date of your electronic entry. This requirement stands, even if you are no longer legally married to the child's parent and whether or not the child currently resides with you or intends to immigrate with you.

Please note that married children and children aged 21 or older at the time of your entry submission are not eligible for the DV program. However, it is worth mentioning that the Child Status Protection Act provides certain protections against 'aging out' for children in specific circumstances. If you submit your DV entry before your unmarried child turns 21, and the child reaches 21 after the entry submission but before visa issuance, there may be a possibility of treating them as though they were still under 21 for visa processing purposes.

Children who are already U.S. citizens or Lawful Permanent Residents (LPRs) at the time of your DV entry submission do not require or qualify for a Diversity Visa. You will not face any penalties for either including or omitting such family members from your entry

7.) Current Marital Status:

Indicate your current marital status by choosing one of the following options:

(1) unmarried
(2) married with a spouse who is not a U.S. citizen or U.S. Lawful Permanent Resident (LPR), (3) married with a spouse who is a U.S. citizen or U.S. LPR
(4) divorced
(5) widowed

(6) legally separated.

Provide the name, date of birth, gender, city/town of birth, and country of birth of your spouse, along with a photograph of your spouse meeting the same technical specifications as your own photo.

Please be aware that failing to list your eligible spouse or listing someone who is not your spouse will make you ineligible as the DV principal applicant as well as your spouse and children ineligible as DV derivative applicants. You must include your spouse's information even if you are currently separated from them unless you are legally separated.

Legal separation is a formal arrangement where a married couple lives apart, typically following a court order. If you and your spouse are legally separated, your spouse cannot immigrate with you through the DV program. You will not face any penalties for including the name of a spouse from whom you are legally separated. If you are not legally separated by a court order, you must include your spouse's information even if you plan to get divorced before applying for the Diversity Visa or if your spouse does not intend to immigrate.

If your spouse is a U.S. citizen or Lawful Permanent Resident, do not include them in your entry. A spouse who is already a U.S. citizen or LPR does not need or qualify for a visa. Therefore, if you select 'married and my spouse IS a U.S. citizen or U.S. LPR' on your entry, you will not be prompted to provide further information about your spouse. Refer to the Frequently Asked Questions for more details regarding family members.

8.) Entry

When can I submit my entry?

The DV-2025 entry period is scheduled to run from 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Daylight Time (EDT) (GMT-4) on Wednesday, October 4, 2023, until 12:00 pm (noon) Eastern Standard Time (EST) (GMT-5) on Tuesday, November 7, 2023. Each year, millions of people submit their entries. Setting these specific dates for the entry period ensures that selected individuals will receive timely notifications and allows both visa applicants and our embassies and consulates ample time to prepare and process visa cases.

We strongly recommend that you submit your entry early during the registration period. A high volume of entries at the end of the registration period may slow down the processing system. Please note that we cannot accept entries for DV-2025 after 12:00 pm EST on Tuesday, November 2, 2023.

Can my spouse and I each submit separate entries?

Yes, each spouse may submit an individual entry if both meet the eligibility requirements. If one spouse is selected, the other is eligible to apply as a derivative dependent.
